Search syntax

Wrenni supports search syntax that lets you select search sources, categories, languages, and special query tools.

!wr Search the Wrenni web index

Use !wr to search Wrenni’s crawled web collection.

This searches Wrenni’s core collection.

!research Search Wrenni library and research collections

Use !research to search Wrenni’s library, academic journal, and research collections together in one results view.

This searches Wrenni’s combined library and scholarly research sources, including library articles, open-access journal content, and academic research records.

The Wrenni web index is not included in !research. Use !wr when you want results from the crawled web collection.

! Select engine and category

To select an engine or category, use a ! prefix.

Reverse image search

Use !tin with a publicly accessible image URL:

TinEye requires a direct image URL. It does not accept a local file upload through the search box.

To select a language filter, use a : prefix.

!!<bang> External bangs

Wrenni supports external bangs from DuckDuckGo. To open an external search provider directly, use the !! prefix.

The external provider receives the search query directly. Wrenni cannot provide its normal privacy protection after the redirect.

!! Automatic redirect

When !! appears by itself in a search query, Wrenni redirects to the first result.

The destination is external and cannot be verified by Wrenni. Wrenni also cannot protect your privacy after the redirect. Use this feature with care.

A hash is a one-way fingerprint of text used for checksums and comparisons. It is not encryption. MD5 and SHA-1 should not be used for security-sensitive verification.
